C-PORTRAITS
In this series of mixed media paintings and photographs, protective ensembles were worn to honor the powerlessness, loneliness and anxiety that surged through us this year. Disarray affected each composition within the use of wet on wet media, layering of different types of marks to represent lives lost or nonsensical lines of disconnection. As the loss of control is honored through a process of shooting double exposures with often irrepressible media, the subject is juxtaposed from deflation to fortitude. Materials such as disinfectant was used to spread turbulent washes of ink across wet paper while washing away the darkness in several images.
