frayed
Inspired by eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, these pieces reprocess dysfunctional childhood memories after surviving a traumatic upbringing. After growing up with parents who battled addiction and ultimately lost the fight, my bank of personal memories became complex, wild and has often unavoidably seep into my work. Energetic neon lines, vivid washes of color, and childlike imagery transport the viewer to a picnic of sister alone in a park who probably shouldn't be and trails of power lines I gazed at while sitting in the back seat of a car upside down without a seat belt.
